Sir: The cargo service at the Daewoo headquarters in Lahore is running the type of scam that would cost them their business in any other country of the world. Instead of delivering mango paitis (cartons) to the right person, they are forcing the delivery of smaller, substandard ones by switching labels. We are victims of this ‘bait and switch’ ourselves. Four identical paitis full of mangoes were dispatched from Multan to Lahore on Monday night, due to arrive by Tuesday afternoon. They were delayed until Wednesday morning. On Wednesday afternoon, only three were handed over. We were told to come back on Thursday to claim the fourth paiti. Thursday morning’s crew could not find it after making us wait for two hours but the thieves of the afternoon crew did not send us away empty-handed. They simply wrote out our receipt number on a very small paiti and sent us on our way. Multiple calls to the Daewoo complaint number yielded no answer. It seems that the management is not concerned with this blatant theft. There are rumours that the Daewoo personnel are selling these good mangoes in the market and substituting inferior mangoes to fulfill customer receipts. Unfortunately, this is not the first time this has happened nor is ours a singular case. Other victims were missing four out of 12 paitis, two out of six, or receiving five different paitis in the same consignment. This criminal behaviour should not be allowed to continue.
