Sir: This day is celebrated every year on June 12. It is estimated that more than 120 million children are bonded in child labour between the ages of five and 14. This year the theme is ‘no to child labour, yes to quality education’. Child labour is rooted in poverty, lack of resources and high fees of education. Those children who should have books in their hands are waiters and mechanics. It is a major injustice with them. This day calls for bringing free education and to help children who are suffering. In our country, 50 percent of the population is living below the poverty line and this is a major reason for child labour. AIMAN MAHMOOD Karachi
