Sir: More than 30 human beings lost their lives while celebrating the Eid holidays by drinking homemade, toxic liquor. It is an open secret that unhygienic food products are sold everywhere in the metropolitan city of Karachi, not to speak of liquor. The misery is that most of the affected were poor people. One should be flabbergasted to know how easily raw, toxic liquor is available in the land of the ‘pure’. In principle, those who are at the helm of affairs must be taken to task and the concerned minister must resign for his negligence. Astonishingly, one victim of this tragedy is a constable. A ‘positive’ sign that the police too have joined hands in testing and tasting homemade liquor. It is an issue of national concern and something must be done about it. IFTIKHAR MIRZA Islamabad
