Sir: A few days ago, I had to travel on the Islamabad Highway from Kok Bridge to Faisal Mosque in Islamabad. I was amazed to see innumerable vehicles present on the road. The road was jam-packed while every commuter seemed to be in a great hurry. The air was filled with smoke and dust. As usual, the Islamabad traffic police was nowhere to be seen. Vehicles had no space to run and they were moving at a snail’s pace. Many people, actually hundreds, were waiting for the clearance of the traffic. They were looking perturbed. I am thankful to the Almighty that I do not live near this road. It will be better if we build future metro systems underground and not suspended in the air. The pressure of increasing population in Rawalpindi in particular and other cities in general is becoming so intense that hundreds of metros cannot solve the transportation problem. The government should take alternative steps regarding public transportation systems. It should build an underground metro train service in Rawalpindi and Islamabad. The government should also take measures to check increasing population in the country. MUHAMMAD ASHTAR Islamabad
