Sir: In a press conference on Wednesday held at Peshawar Electricity Supply Cooperation (PESCO) headquarters, the State Minister for Water and Power Abid Sher Ali has accused some ministers in the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) government and a few leaders of Tehreek-e-Insaaf of being involved in protecting the power thieves and for harassing WAPDA officials in some parts of KP. He threatened that if these activities continue, power supply to the affected areas would be cut off or load shedding might be increased from the existing eight hours to 20 hours as a punishment. The allegations levelled by the state minister are serious and should be inquired into by a high powered committee constituted by the federal government in consultation with the chief minister of KP. In the light of the committee’s findings, those found guilty, irrespective of their status, should be taken to task. Needless to say, this will be a test case for Imran Khan who a few days ago had kicked out a couple of ministers from an allied party on charges of corruption. S TAJAMMAL H RIZVI Lahore
