Sir: I was shocked to meet my friend’s mother, disabled by polio at a very young age. Thousands across the country have been affected by polio. Most of the countries have successfully expunged the poliovirus, but Pakistan is still fighting this menace. We have been struggling to become polio-free without putting real effort into the cause. A paralysis that destroys a person’s life is unforgivable. It is a sin to let a child limp through his/her life, when he/she could enjoy life, with healthy limbs. The ban imposed on the polio campaigns in Federally Administered Tribal Areas (FATA) has taken its toll on innocent children. It is a shame that we cannot even run a sustained anti-polio campaign across the country. I request the government to take serious steps against the elements preventing polio eradication and spread awareness in FATA about how dangerous polio can be. AYESHA IZHAR Karachi
