Sir: Nowadays, a private television channel is telecasting the country’s biggest singing reality show along the lines of American Idol. The channel claims that the show meets international standards but the judges on the show seem to be jokers, not judges. This interactive music competition is based on an international format created by British producer Simon Fuller, which has been adapted in over 46 countries around the world. Keeping in view the popularity of the show, the judges must be competent enough to ascertain one’s singing ability and professionalism. One of the judges is Bushra Ansari, who is undoubtedly a great actress/comedian but she is not at all a singer. How can she know the scale and range of the voice as she does not have any solid musical background? She is just on the show to ridicule the contestants. Another judge is Mr Ali Azmat, the sufi rock icon, but he also does not fall under the category of ustads. He is only adding a funny aspect to the show by his weird bodily movements and facial expressions. The third judge is Hadiqa Kiyani; we all know that nowadays she is into so many other businesses that music seems to be her last priority. All this leaves the viewers wondering why singers like Rahat Fateh Ali Khan, Rustam Fateh Ali Khan, Shafqat Amanat Ali Khan, Ghulam Ali and Sajjad Ali have not been made judges on the show.
