Sir: Either they are indecisive and bewildered in their policy towards Pakistan or they are trying to baffled others to make Pakistan a scapegoat for the US failures in Afghanistan. I am talking about the US military and civil administration. The way they are dealing with Pakistan in matters pertinent to Afghanistan, particularly the Haqqani network, clearly demonstrate their paradoxical behaviour. They sometime praised Pakistan ‘role for taking strict actions against the militants and sometimes severely criticized it. For instance, US army chief Gen Joseph Dunford applauded Pakistan role in counter terrorism and declared Pakistan’s support indispensable for the US victory in Afghanistan. In the same way, Gen Votell, in month of February, told the US Senate that Pakistan had taken concrete steps against the Haqqani network. On the other hand, the senators like John McCain reiterated the same ‘Do more mantra’ during his foray to Pakistan. Similarly, the US security adviser, Gen McMaster, made a statement two days earlier that Trump wanted to see a change in Pakistan’s behaviour particularly in its policy towards the Haqqanis. Moreover, the US senate delayed reimbursement of $50 million which was going to be received by Pakistan. All these shows that the American are confused in their strategy towards Pakistan. Or they wanted to make Pakistan a whipping boy. No matter what it is but one thing is sure, this dictatorial attitude of the US administration not only will affect the US-Pakistan relations but also prove detrimental to Afghan Peace Process.
