Sir: The Right to Information Act (RTI) is a powerful tool for the general public. It binds the government to act vigilantly and allow scrutiny of its work. The provincial governments in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) and Punjab have adopted the law, but there is lack of awareness about its utilisation and proper implementation. For proper utilisation of the Act and to make it more effective, the government needs to act responsibly and encourage a layman to take benefit from the RTI where it is required the most. There should be strong liaison between the government and the RTI commission over issues that come under the purview of the RTI. After all, it is the work of the government to identify possible constraints and improve the quality of data before the law can be followed by the citizens of the state. HARIS JANJUA Via Email
