Sir: It is rather unfortunate that despite all the scientific and technological innovations and developments in the modern world, even children are not safe from killing diseases like cancer these days. It is good to note that Children Hospital Lahore has been provided with a much needed facility with the completion of bone marrow transplant project at a cost of Rs 240 million. Highly qualified and rained doctors, nurses and para-medical staff have been posted at the just completed centre after training for super specialty at the Sindh National Institute of Blood Diseases in Karachi. Reports said that six doctors and six nurses were trained at the Institute in Karachi as master trainers. In turn, these master trainers have imparted training to more than 60 doctors, nurses and para-medical staff during last six months. It is also appreciable to note that the lady incharge of the Centre has got two years training at Birmingham Hospital in Britain. Not only his, a special team of Punjab Human Organs Transplant Authority had also visited the Children Hospital and thoroughly inspected the newly established Bone Marrow Transplant Centre and expressed their satisfaction over the facility so provided. After proper permission is received from the Authority within next couple of days, the first child will be admitted in the Centre for bone marrow transplantation in a week time from now. Punjab Government is committed to provide most modern healthcare facilities to the people with special attention to women and children under express directions of the chief minister and addition of Bone Marrow Transplant Centre at the Children Hospital in the provincial metropolis is yet another step in the right direction in this regard which is quite commendable.
