Sir: It is widely acclaimed that China’s style of foreign investment engages the local population and industries. However, there are elements in Pakistan that are baselessly propagating that in CPEC, instead of benefitting the local population, China poses a competitive and even existential threat to Pakistan’s industries. China is one of the largest growing economies of the world, and economists know that to work with such an economy is an ideal opportunity every country would wish for. Foreign investment and mega developmental projects that are part of CPEC will open, for the local population and industries, all great avenues to explore and to work in the international market. To deal and to strategise how to capitalise better on the opportunities of the international market is the task of economists and should be left to them as such. MARIA MALIK Lahore
