PESHAWAR: A local court handed over a person accused of the transgender murder to the police on two days of physical remand on Monday. The transgender Alisha was allegedly killed by her partner Fazal Gujjar in an attack on May 22. Alisha, who breathed her last in the hospital two days later, had identified her partner as her killer in her dying statement to the police. The local police produced the alleged murderer of Alisha before the media on Sunday. Police believe that the dying declaration of Alisha makes a strong case against the suspect. Fazal Gujjar, a man in his 20s, was arrested by police on May 28. Peshawar’s Transgender Alliance, a forum of civil society and transgenders established to create awareness about the rights of transgender, has also raised its voice against the incident. After the death of Alisha, the protest of her transgender family had forced the police to take serious efforts for the arrest of the killer.
