PESHAWAR: The law enforcing agencies and the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa police have taken 120 suspected persons into custody in a search and strike operation in Nowshera district here on Sunday. Nowshera District Police Officer (DPO) Capt. (Retd) Wahid Mehmood told the media that the suspected men were arrested in search operations in the Ashoorabad, Azakhel, Karimi town, Pashtun Garhi and Khan Sher Garhi areas of Nowshera. Wahid Mehmood added that the operation was launched in light of an inquiry report that the Pakistan Army had shared with the Nowshera cantonment authorities and the provincial government, suggesting that a number of Afghan nationals were holding Pakistani and Indian passports obtained by illegal means. “We had received a number of complaints alleging that many Afghan nationals had obtained Pakistani identity cards and passports and had registered themselves on the voters’ lists,” Wahid Mehmood informed. According to details, the army investigative report mentioned that at least 900 Afghans had obtained Pakistani registration documents through illegal means. The DPO maintained that an inquiry was initiated about the Afghan nationals who had secured purchase of movable and immovable properties and businesses in the district using the illegal documents. Member of Peace committee shot dead: Unknown target killers have shot dead a peace committee member in Mamond tehsil of Bajaur Agency on Sunday. Local sources said that 16 year-old Imran was shot in Gat Agra area of Mamond tehsil by unidentified men who managed to flee the scene unharmed. Security forces cordoned off the area as a search operation was launched soon after the incident. Women killed: One woman was killed and another sustained severe bullet injuries over an insignificant fighting of children in Land Ahmadkhel village in Lakki Marwat on Sunday. Police sources said that the incident took place when the male members of two families exchanged harsh words after a quarrel between children. The men later resorted to use of firearms which resulted in the killing of one Khan Begama Bibi and serious injuring of Shadeela Bibi of the same family. The injured was rushed to a local hospital where she nominated Inamullah, Jan Muhammad, Muhammad Khan, Muhammad Noor and Syed Ayaz in her statement to the police. The First Information Report (FIR) was registered at the Lakki Marwat Police Station and an investigation had been initiated against the accused persons who were still at large. Police arrests criminal of Bannu 2012 jail-break: An suspected criminal who managed to escape jail during the 2012 Bannu jail-break has been arrested by police in Lakki Marwat on Sunday. According to information shared by Police with the media, prisoner Nader Ali had escaped the jail when militants attacked the same in April 2012. “Nader Ali was working as a labourer in a box-making factory in Lakki city under the name of Hazrat Ali,” said a local police official on condition of anonymity as he was not authorised to speak to the media. The accused was arrested after a tip-off by a police informer led to a police raid on the factory. The arrested man would be handed over to Bannu police after internal police formalities were met, informed the unnamed police officer.
