PESHAWAR: A meeting of Peshawar’s Khyber Teaching Hospital (KTH) board of governors was held on Saturday under the chairmanship of Dr Faisal Sultan. Board members included Shahana Zubair, Dil Roze Khan and Dr Shah Jahan Khan along with KTH Director Brig (r) Dr Fazle Akbar, Medical Director Dr Roohul Muqeem, Khyber Medical College (KMC) Principal Dr Ijaz Hassan Khan and Khyber College of Dentistry (KCD) Principal Dr Ghulam Rasool. The meeting started with the recitation from the holy Quran by Dil Roze Khan. Enhancement in the Health Professional Allowance (HPA) of doctors and admissibility of the same to non-clinical staff would be decided on July 13, 2016 by joint meeting of BoG members and heads of departments. The long-standing issue of HPA for the hospital staff was discussed in detail during the meeting and it was unanimously decided that all nursing staff and paramedical staff, which have already been awarded HPA by the government, would be granted with the allowance as per criteria. Non-clinical staff including ministerial, information technology, maintenance and all Class-IV cadres would be awarded one-time Eid bonus of Rs 10,000 from BPS-1 to 7 and Rs 20,000 for BPS-8 and above in the current month. The committee also approved the promotion cases that were pending for approval by the board. Senior Registrar Medicine Dr Iqbal Haider was promoted to the post of Assistant Professor for Medicine at KMC, Dr Masroor Badshah, Dr Munila Shabnum Khattak, Dr Sadaf Ambreen and Dr Zainab Rahman were appointed Assistant Professors of Anatomy at KMC. Dr Sajjad Muhammad was also appointed as Physiology Assistant Professor at KMC. The hospital director gave a detailed presentation regarding the performance of the hospital staff and utilisation of the available resources for the best interest of patients. The medical director explained improvements in the Accident and Emergency Department and said that the medical and surgical TMOs must work on daily rotation basis for duties in the Casualty Department to overcome the burden of patient flow especially in evening and night shifts. Similarly, the approval of the selection committees for the remaining three key positions i.e. finance director, nursing director and BoG secretary were approved accordingly as per MTI Act 2015. Other issue regarding improvement of patient care was also discussed in detail.
