PESHAWAR: Senior Minister of Health Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Sharam Khan Tarakai said that the role of stewardship played by KMU being the sole Medical University of the province as an research and knowledge generating entity is not only commendable but it is an exemplary model for other sister organizations, he was talking to the inaugural ceremony as chief guest to the 8th health research conference at KMU. Besides Special Assistant to Chief Minister KPK Arif Yousaf, Vice Chancellor KMU Prof. Dr. Muhammad Hafizullah, DGHS Dr. Shabina Raza, Director ORIC KMU Dr. Zia ul Haq , heads of various institutions, faculty, medical experts, researchers and a large number of post and under graduate students were also present. Sharam Khan Tarakai while showing concern on increasing burden disease on society suggested that the effective steps could be adopted in shape of preventive measures. He argued that the PTI lead Provincial Govt. during the last four years had taken so many steps according to its reforms agenda. He explains that there is a heavy load on health sector due to unhygienic drinking water, Zoonotic, sanitation and environmental issues and now the time has come to address these entire health related problems with the comprehensive strategy in collaboration and coordination of all relevant departments and KMU can play a leading role in this direction. He said establishment of Public Health Reference Lab at KMU and enacting of public health act is recently tabled in the provincial assembly for ensuring better health delivery system of the province and hopefully with these steps the overall health sector will definitely get improved. While talking to the ceremony Special Asistant to Chief Minister KPK Arif Yousaf said the Govt. has so far passed 127 Acts from the provincial assembly which is an honor and matter of pride for all of us. He said KMU is striving hard for the quality medical education and health research and hopefully this role can be kept continued with full professional zeal. While delivering welcome address VC KMU Prof. Dr. Hafizullah said the theme of this conference is one health: The way forward, which means devising a multi prong strategy to overcome the disease burden through collaboration with other stake holders. He said that KMU is well aware of its role being a medical university and it is not only generating and adding knowledge but its research based activities like seminars, workshops, conferences as well as MHR and CHR programs are the higher standards which had been achieved in the last ten years. He said KMU ORIC is one of the best among all universities of the country. DGHS Dr. Shabina Raza, Chief organizer Dairy Science Park Prof. Subhan Qureshi and Director ORIC KMU Dr. Zia Ul Haq also talked to the inaugural ceremony.
