UPPER DIR: Students of the Government Primary School (GPS), Karkabanj, Karo Dara, in Upper Dir district are getting education under a ‘treat to life’ environment as they were sit into damaged class rooms by October, 26, 2015,’s earthquake. Two out of four rooms of the school have developed big and wide cracks and unable to set into it. Muhammad Rahim, the head master, said that total of 523 students were enrolled in the school and up to 30 other children, non-enrolled, also coming school for education so total number of students reached to 550. He said that the school building was consist of only four rooms of which two had already badly damaged by last year devastating earthquake. He said that they were compelled to take classes into those damaged class rooms because the school had not the capacity according to the number of the enrolled students, adding that they were compel to sit students in damaged rooms. He said that they had given applications and also provided pictures of those damaged rooms to district administration, district nazim and education department several times but to no avail yet. “Half of students were sent back to homes when there is rain,” said Rahim. Students said that they were feeling extreme danger to get education under such circumstances, sitting into cracks-developed rooms of the school. They said that they could not keep concentration on their education especially when sitting in the damaged rooms, adding that they alerted whenever some particles fell down from the cracks-developed walls. Captain Muddasir, a 1st grade student, said that he daily request to his parents to pray for his safe return because his class was set into one of that damaged rooms. Shafiullah, a student of 5th class, said that they were facing lots of difficulties due to shortage of class rooms and students were accommodated in class rooms more than its capacity. He said that apart from that the class rooms are also very dark due to not having of electricity in the school. “We are not able of studying during rainy day or cloudy day owing to which our precious time is wasting,” he said. Hina Imran, a 4th grader, said that the school had lacking of basic facilities including shortage of class rooms, electricity and wash rooms. She said that there was not a single wash room for the student and not even for teachers. She said that students especially girl students were facing difficulties, adding that male student could manage their need of wash in open air however it was impossible for girl students to do so. “At least two wash rooms each for male and for female student should establish,” she said. Imran Khan, a father of a student, said that the GPS Karkabanj had lots of issues the most one was that damaged rooms, adding that they were always worried about lives of their children because the damaged rooms could anytime collapsed due to its worst condition and precious lives could loss in it. He said that provincial government should show its ‘education emergency’ in real sense. The students and parents demanded of the education department of Upper Dir and provincial government to make new rooms to avoid students from getting mental depression and provide them a learning friendly environment and also provide other facilities including electricity and wash rooms in the school. Other they would be forced to leave their education or at least that school.
