UPPR DIR: Three students were injured in an Improvised Explosives Device (IED) explosion on Tuesday in the remote Doog Darra area in Upper Dir district, official sources said. Police sources said that unidentified terrorists had planted an IED near the Government Primary School for boys, Salam Bekai, and they wanted to target the school and students. Sources said that when students lined up for assembly in the morning some of the students as well as school staff sighted that a little smoke was coming out in the air from the school gate. Immediately teachers asked students to evacuate the school but the blast hurt three students. The injured students were shifted to rural health center, Sheringal. The area was cordoned off by the law enforcement agencies after the explosion and a search operation was started. However, no arrest was made till compiling of the story. DPO Upper Dir, Athar Waheed, said that information had been received few days before that education institutions could be targeted in Doog Darra. He said that they informed all school managements in the area to complete security measures in their respective schools and also keep a vigilant eye on schools and other high level places. It should be mentioned here that Doog Darra remained a stronghold of the banned Tehrik-i-Taliban Pakistan in the 2009. However, they fled the area due to the security forces operations. A remote controlled bomb explosion also took place on July 18 this year when a vehicle was targeted in which seven people, among them a top amn committee member had been killed. The District Education Officer (DEO), Moueen ud Din, also confirmed that three students had injured in the blast. He said that the said school and other schools situated in the surroundings of that school had been closed for an unidentified period.
