PESHAWAR: Members of Islami Jamiat-e-Tulaba Pakistan on Thursday urged provincial government to lift ban from unions carrying out activities in varsities otherwise they would come on road to protest against it. Addressing a news conference at Peshawar Press Club, Nazim Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Chapter of Islami Jamiat-e-Talba, Shah Zaman Nazim said that KP Government has restricted unions from conducting all sorts of organizational activities in the limits of universities for the last three years. Competent political leaders would not emerge if the ban is not lifted from unions, he claimed. He expressed deep sorrow over imposition of ban on unions saying it was very shocking that they could not conduct activities as most of their work related to welfare of students. Urging PTI led provincial government, to instantly lift ban from unions otherwise they would be compelled to carry out demonstration. Announcing the six months long campaign in educational institutions across the province, Nazim said that newcomers would be received with warm welcome from September 20 to 30 as various programmes would be arranged for them. He informed that lesson learned skits and drams would be presented as well including the role students in welfare and development of the country. Similarly, the teachers week would be observed from October 1 to 10 where the services of dignified teachers to be highlighted, he stated and adding that colorful banners, charts and placards will be installed in parts of varsities and academies. However, seminars, lecturers and walk would also be conducted while shields and gifts would be conferred to teachers as well, he claimed. Regarding an education drive, Shah Zaman said that issues related to education including increase in education budget, implementing equal education system, declaring Urdu as national language, decreasing admission fees, eradication of corruption from education department and restoration of students unions would be raised. He also clarified there will be three parts of abovementioned campaign. In first phase of drive, he informed that informative pamphlets, banners will be set up in all education institutions and a survey will also be carried out pertaining to problems in universities being faced by students. As talk shows, skits and drams will be presented for imparting information to students and seminars and corner meetings to be held to raise the issues accordingly. He went on to explain that rallies, meetings with heads of academies, varsities, media persons and intellectuals will be held for apprising them of genuine issues confronted by students across the province in various education institutions. He categorically said the aim of conducting such effective programmes was to divert attention of incumbent government towards the burning issues of students.
