PESHAWAR: Three days anti-polio campaign will be kicked-off today (Wednesday) in Federal Administered Tribal Areas (FATA) and it will continue for three days from November 23, 2016, followed by catch up of missed children, under the supervision and security provided by political agents, commissioners and security forces. In the entire Federal Administered Tribal Areas and Frontier Regions, 1,022,665 children below the age of five years will be vaccinated by 4146 teams, comprising 3753 mobile teams, 292fixed teams and 101transit teams. The campaign is focused on reaching and vaccinating every child for ultimate polio eradication. In certain parts of South Waziristan Agency in Mehsud belt the anti-polio campaign will be launched on November 28, 2016 due to arriving repatriating families and children who will be included in the tally for vaccination. EOC Federal Administered Tribal Areas Coordinator said that the campaign will focus on vaccinating persistently missed children as vaccinating every child is the ultimate path to polio eradication from Federal Administered Tribal Areas and Pakistan. He said, “I am confident that with the support of political administration, law enforcement agencies, national and international partners the anti-polio campaign will be able to achieve its set targets.” He further said that the recently repatriated or being repatriated children will be paid special attention for polio vaccination and all of them will be vaccinated. So far only two polio cases have been reported from South Waziristan Agency in Federal Administered Tribal Areas and FRs. Both the polio cases were from the displaced families recently returned to South Waziristan Agency from Afghanistan. In 2016, total number of wild polio cases from all around Pakistan is 18 from 13 districts/towns (compared to 49 cases from 22 districts during 2015). Polio programme in Pakistan is a top national priority and is achieving a high level of performance this year. Polio programme is aiming to curb transmission of polio virus at the end of 2016, placing more emphasis on November and December (2016) anti-polio campaigns. Two day painting exhibition held: A two day painting exhibition will be held at cultural centre of Iran in Peshawar. The theme of the exhibition was Culture and Nature of Pakistan with special emphases on Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Northern Areas. The Paintings to be exhibited are the work of the students of Painting Class of the centre. Ms. Zarin Zia, member provincial assembly Khyber Pakhtunkhwa will inaugurate the exhibition at 2 pm on Saturday, November 26. The exhibition will be open for General Public.
