PESHAWAR: The Khyber-Pakhtunkhawa (KP) Governor, Iqbal Zafar Jhagra, said over 90 per cent Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) had returned to their homes in the Federally Administrated Tribal Areas (FATA). Talking to the media in Peshawar he said there were many problems to delay the process for IDPs resettlement; however, harsh weather was the main reason. But now the difficult phase had been completed and only ten per cent need to be sent back to their homes. The governor lauded the Pakistan armed forces for eliminating the nurseries of terrorists from the area through Operation Zarb-e-Azb. He said a comprehensive reforms package for FATA had been prepared with consensus, which had even been adopted by the National Assembly and was now in the Senate for deliberations. The governor said in the majority of the area people were in favour of merging FATA in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province. Iqbal Zafar Jhagra said after implementation of reforms in FATA during the current year, local government elections will also be held in FATA. Anti-polio drive: A five-day anti-polio campaign in Khyber Agency and Wana Subdivision of South Waziristan Agency will start on Monday January 23, 2017. The active campaign will continue for five days from Monday January23rd to Friday January 27th, followed by a catch up of missed children, under the supervision and assistance of political agents, commissioners and security forces. In Khyber Agency, about 2.25 lakh children below the age of 5 years will be vaccinated by 869 teams, comprising 791 mobile teams, 52 fixed teams and 26 transit teams. While in Wana Subdivision 44 mobile teams, 20 fixed and 8 transit teams will be vaccinating 72202children. Due to ongoing community mobilisation and validation of micro-plans, the anti-polio campaign in Khyber Agency and Wana subdivision of South Waziristan was postponed for a week. Agency Polio Eradication Committee (APEC), in its recently held meeting at Khyber House on January 19, 2017, decided to continue with the plan of launching anti-polio campaign in Khyber Agency from Monday (January 23, 2017). Emergency Operations Centre (EOC) FATA confirmed that all the arrangements had been finalised for the campaign and health teams were ready to reach out to every child in both the agencies. EOC Coordinator FATA urged the parents to ensure that all their children under 5 are vaccinated during this round. He said that thanks to the cooperation of the community and hard work of our courageous health workers/Sehat Muhafez, Khyber Agency did not report any case during 2016. “We want to get rid of the virus forever from KP and rest of FATA and this is the time to give the virus the final push and ensure a healthy and safe future for our children,” he added. Protest: The Khurram Agency Student’s Federation staged a protest demonstration outside the Peshawar Press Club on Sunday to condemn yesterday’s deadly bomb blast in Kurram Agency that left at least 25 people dead and injured 85 others. They also urged the people not to give a sectarian colour to the blast and said they all were united against terrorism and extremism The protesters raised their voice against increase in terrorism. They held placards and banners condemning the attack and demanded the government to provide security to citizens. Speakers at the gathering urged the government to increase the security at the Pak-Afghan border to avoid terror incidents from across the border. Ijaz Bangash, who participated in the protest, told Daily Times that the government should stop such attacks in future because it’s the fifth of its kind when the security of the region had been handed over to the political administration of Kurram Agency.
