KHYBER AGENCY: The Khasadar force foiled a bid of smuggling of Saudi riyals from Pakistan to Afghanistan by recovering the currency from an Afghan citizen at the Torkham border on Friday. Naib Tehsildar Passport Torkham, Shams-ul-Islam said that the on duty Khasadar personnel stopped Afghanistan bound Afghan national for routine checking. During the search cash as 900000 Saudi riyals concealed in wheat bags was recovered from him. The currency smuggler was identified as Naeem Shah s/o Shundi Gul, resident of Achin district of Ningrahar province of Afghanistan. A case was registered against him and the currency along with the detainee was sent to Landi Kotal lock-up for further investigation, Khasadar sources informed. It is to be stated here that since long, gold and the currency smuggling of Pakistani rupees, dollars, Saudi riyals and other foreign currencies are on the rise via the Torkham border and big fish in Peshawar are involved in the malpractice and they execute their schemes through their touts. Women jirga: A tribal Jirga of South Waziristan Agency has denounced a women’s tribal Jirga which was organised in Peshawar at Bacha Khan Markaz. A Jirga of Mehsud tribe elders headed by Haji Saeed Anwar was held at the political compound. The Jirga was also attended by Maulana Asamuddin and Brigadier (Retd) Qayyum Sher. Speakers on the occasion said that some so-called tribal women held a Jirga at Bacha Khan Markaz in Peshawar which had seriously damaged the tribal traditions. Kohat: Kohat Police have initiated a campaign to collect illegal arms from the people on voluntary basis. Police said the residents of Usterzai submitted arms in a huge quantity on the first day of the campaign, reported a private news channel. The arms which were submitted to the police included rocket launchers, rocket propelled grenades, one anti-aircraft gun, 60 mortar shells, three mortar guns, 60 rifles and hundreds of cartridges. Suspects: The police has intensified the crackdown against anti-social elements and drug peddlars by arresting 221 suspects including 14 proclaimed offenders. The police also arrested 39 persons for violating laws against pillion riding in the city and sent them to jails. Two Kalashnikovs, three repeaters, on each rifle and gun, 20 pistols and 346 rounds were seized.
