PESHAWAR: Renowned physician and Khyber Teaching Hospital (KTH) Medical-B Unit In-charge Prof Dr Noorul Iman has been selected as the first regular dean of the Khyber Medical College. The interviews for the post of dean were held on different dates, but on April 17, in the final interview; Prof Dr Noorul Iman was selected, according to a press release issued on Monday. According to the statement, 11 applicants were called in for the interview, while the selection team consisted of Shifa Medical College Principal Dr Shoaib Hussain Shah, Maj Gen (r) Dr Masoodur Rehman Kiani and other members. Prof Dr Nooru Iman was a former KMC principal and had worked as the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa special secretary (health). He has also worked as the chairman of the KP Health Department’s Organisational Restructuring Committee. He has written 61 research papers in national and international journals and authored two books for medical students. The scrutiny committee, after different sessions, had set criteria as per the advertisement and 11 candidates were called in. After a transparent process convened by the board of governors, Prof Dr Noorul Iman was issued the appointment orders for being on top of the merit list. It may be mentioned here that Dr Noorul Iman was the youngest principal of the KMC in 2012. He would now serve as dean at the college where he studied as a student during 1980s. In 1986 he did his graduation from KMC and then went to Ireland where he did MRCP in 1991. He also did FRCP from Ireland and Edinburgh, and is Fellow of European Board of gastroenterology. He joined the Khyber Teaching Hospital as senior registrar in July 1993. He was promoted as professor in 2008.
