PESHAWAR: A three-day anti-polio campaigns starting today in FATA while it will continue till May 18, which will be followed by catch up of missed children and surveillance activities. According to press release, it will be the fifth round of anti-polio campaign closing this month. As many as 96,5633 children with the age below five years will be vaccinated by total 3,078 teams comprising 2,718 mobile teams, 270 fixed teams and 90 transit teams under the supervision and security provided by political agents, commissioners, para-military and military forces. Polio high-risk areas including Khyber Agency, Jamrud and Bara, South Waziristan, North Waziristan Agency and Bannu, Baka Khail, Jani Khail, Hindi Khail and Sintanga will be focused during the campaign. On a separate note, anti-polio drive will also begin in Balochistan today (Monday). The health authorities said that children aged five and below will be given polio drops with a special focus on Afghan refugees’ camps. The preparations have been completed by the local administration to ensure that every child gets polio vaccines. A health official said that over 2.4 million children will be administer polio drops during the campaign while a task force has been set up to monitor the entire drive.
