PESHAWAR: A three-day anti-polio campaign will begin in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa on 25 July 2016 to vaccinate childrenin eight high risk districts of KP, fifty camps of IDPs and Afghan refugees children in the province. This was decided in a meeting held at Emergency Operation Centre KP under the chairmanship of Coordinator EOC Akbar Khan here on Friday. He said that during the campaign, a total of 1,994,000 children below five years age will be vaccinated. For this purpose 4941 teams have been formed who will be supervised by 972 area supervisors. He said that the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government was fully committed to eliminating polio from the province and despite several challenges, a considerable decline was noticed in polio cases in KP. He added their target was not to reduce the number of cases, but to eliminative polio completely. He maintained that a three day campaign would start on July 25, 2016, whereas eight districts, namely Peshawar, Bannu, DI Khan, Tank,Karak, Kohat, Hangu, Lakki Marwat would be the targeted areas. During the campaign, fifty camps of IDPs, Afghan refugees, and 305 high risk union councils will be accessed to immunise 1,993,971 children. He said that out of 4,941 teams 3,986 were mobile teams, 509 were fixed teams, 368 were transit teams and 78 were roaming teams. Giving district-wise detail, Akbar Khan said that 964 teams will work under 148 area supervisors in Peshawar, who will immunise 833,000 children. In, DI Khan 1,100 teams are tasked with immunizing 276,000 children. He further said that foolproof security arrangements would be made for the teams in the targeted areas while international agencies like WHO, UNICEF, BMGF would utilise their resources to make the campaign successful.
