PESHAWAR: Governor Iqbal Zafar Jhagra has said that the academic institutions enabled the nations to cope with the challenges of present day and the University of Swabi (UoS) carries a lot of expectations to contribute significantly in this respect. The Governor, chief guest at the 1st Convocation of Graduates University of Swabi at the Convocation Hall, University of Peshawar (UoP) on Thursday, said that the academic system of the institution must improve to ensure a better outcome and make it compatible with any of the developed institutions of the country within the shortest possible time. A total of 246 graduates were awarded master degrees in Arts and Science as well as in Bachelor of Arts and Science. 65 got gold and silver medals for achieving distinctive positions in their respective fields of study. On this occasion, the Governor announced cash prizes Rs 10, 000 to each Gold Medalists. The ceremony was also attended by Vice Chancellor (VC) Swabi University Professor Dr. Noor Jehan, Member of Parliamentarians, Vice Chancellors, Faculty Members of the University, students and their parents. The Governor also conferred an honorary Ph.D degree to Provincial Inspection Team Chairman Syed Akhtar Ali Shah by the University of Swabi for his exemplary service in the field of higher education. Congratulating the graduates, the Governor said that education was about broadening the mind, freeing knowledge seekers from all superstitions and falsehoods; liberating human minds from base instincts and creating a desire to attain higher intellectual, moral and spiritual status. He wished them success in materialising the dreams they carried in this respect.Earlier, the Vice Chancellor Prof: Dr. Noor Jehan, welcoming the Governor, highlighted the achievements of the institution and said that the graduates of the institution would not disappoint the nation and their parents.
