MANSEHRA: Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Government for the first time has evolved a comprehensive strategy to retrieve land meant for New Balakot city housing project from the illegal occupation of its previous owners and to restart development to allot plots to October 8, 2005 earthquake survivor families of Balakot. The fresh development came following Provincial assembly’s standing committee on Rehabilitation and settlement taken a notice of delay in completion of project being development to settle survivor’s families of red zone Balakot and Garlat and asked divisional administration in Hazara to retrieve land from its occupants and start development within a month. “We are directed by our high ups in a meeting held in Peshawar to implement the law to retrieve land and start development of the project,” Iqbal Hussain the deputy commissioner Mansehra told reporters on Saturday. The meeting which was held in Peshawar on Friday was attended by Chief Secretary Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, chairman Earthquake Rehabilitation and Reconstructing Authority, secretary finance KP, senior member board of revenue KP, Secretary law, commissioner Hazara and deputy commissioner Mansehra and decided to implement the decision of standing committee in latter and sprit and take legal action to retrieve land being occupied by its previous owners despite receiving the money. The senior member of board of revenue told meeting that his department had paid and amount of Rs 1.20 billion to its previous landowners and even then they were illegally occupied the land meant to develop new Balakot city housing project to settle over 3000 families of red zone. Iqbal Hussain said that government was serious in getting back the land and law would take its due course to implement the orders of standing committee and high ups. The former president Gen (r) Pervez Musharraf had inaugurated New Balakot city housing project with an estimated cost of Rs 13 billion to settle families of red zone Balakot but development was work was suspended in 2010 following landowners created law and order situation.
