PESHAWAR: The Elementary & Secondary Education (E&SE) department collected Rs2.7 million in term of cutting from the salaries of teacher’s absenteeism in two months aimed to enhance accountability and transparency in the government schools of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP). The E&SE department on Tuesday issued a press release which said that with help of Online Action Management System (OAMS) and Independent Monitoring Unit (IMU) help decrease three per cent teachers’ absenteeism. It said that education department was undertaking novel methods to curb the practice of teacher’s issues and put them in right direction to attend their schools and classes regularly. The initiative will not only boost the performance of the teachers at class but will give push to department for recovery if teacher failed to abide by the rules. The statement said that Automated Action Management System (AAMS) is a step forward of collecting data that would generate automated actions against various indicators. Each action would be tagged against the concerned authority starting from the district education officer up to the education minister. Within two months of its launch, teacher’s absenteeism has been significantly reduced from 15 percent to 12 percent across the province. It said that the Deputy Commissioners have also directed salary deduction of teachers who are habitual absent. Districts are effectively using Online Action Management System, which enables the higher authorities to review progress of each district and take actions on daily basis. The system also allows scanned documents to be uploaded so that official evidences can authenticate each action. Similarly, the system will enable monitoring of actions that in turn feeds into monitoring of the district education officer’s performance. Online Action Management System will not only result in uniform implementation of action across the province, but will provide a central database to keep a track of all actions.
