DIR: Relatives of children patients and residents of Dir have complained that the children out patient department (OPD) in the district headquarters hospital in Dir is closed by the doctor on 11 or 11:30 am and went leave patients without examined due to which patients are suffering badly. They said dozen of children patients remained from getting treatment daily. They said that patients who came from par off areas of the district including Thal, Lamoti, Kalkot, Patrak, Doog dara, Gawaldi, Sheirngal, Brawal and others had got extremely disappointment when they were left helpless out of the children OPD. Islam Gul, resident of Patrak, said that he had brought his five years old grandson for treatment to the DHQ hospital, adding that he had not only disappointed but went into shock when heard that the doctor had left his OPD and refused to examine more patients. Another woman relative of the patient said that she was waiting for treatment of her daughter outside the OPD however the doctor was not present in the OPD. She said that relatives of the children patients especially women were suffering due to the doctor deny from examine the patients after 11:00 am in the morning. “There is no one to ask from doctors who do not perform their duties properly,” she said. Sheraz Ahmad, resident of Dir town, said that the elected representatives from Upper Dir are responsible of the worst situation of the DHQ hospital. He criticized those elected representatives including senior minister Inayatullah, MNA district nazim of Upper Dir said that they were not interested in solving problems faced by patients and people of the district. Doctor Nazarul Islam claimed that according to the job description of the health department he is bound to examine only 15 patients daily in the OPD, adding that as a specialist doctor the job description also allows him to attend OPD three day in a week. He said that he however examined 50 to 70 patients daily in the OPD. He said that he was not bound to perform duty till 12:00 pm and above it in the OPD. Nazrul Islam said that due to shortage of specialist doctors as well medical officers in the DHQ hospital they had to bear a massive burden of patients. He said that the MS should provide them the job description according to which they could perform their duties and avoid from any kind of misunderstanding between patients and doctors. However the medical superintend of the DHQ Dr Ghani Rehman could not give provide job description in written form, said that there was not existence the job description which allowed specialists or MOs to examine fixed number of patients in OPDs.
