MARDAN: The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Minister of Education Atif Khan said strict action would be taken against teachers for giving physical punishments to students of government schools in the province. He said this during visit to Government Centennial Model School for Boys and Girls, Government Primary School Karawan Road and Government Girls Secondary School ChamTar in District Mardan. He further said teachers need to create a friendly atmosphere for learning and no hard rules would be tolerated to hurt the students who come for learning. The minister was also accompanied by the Parliamentary Secretary for Culture and Sports, Zahid Durrani MPA, DEOs Ziauddin and Samina Ghani, ADO Syed Ikram, principals Inayat Ali, Nihayat Begam and Professor Mohyuddin. The minister said millions were spent to provide basic facilities to government schools which had brought about a change in the situation of the schools performance and the ability of students. He added that IT Labs were established in the schools in order to keep the students informed about the modern facilities and techniques of gaining knowledge. He said the ongoing projects need to be completed in time in order to provide further facilitation and introduce more development. Scholarship: The Insaf Student Federation (ISF) Jamrud Branch staged a demonstration to ask scholarships from the Political Agent Khyber Agency on Friday at Khyber Pass in Jamrud Tehsil of Khyber Agency. The protest was attended by the members of ISF and workers of the Pakistan Tehrik-e-Insaf (PTI) Party to show support for the demands of the students. The Executive Committee member of Insaf Student Pakistan Adnan Shinwari said that the PA scholarship was revived in all other agencies while the Political Agent Khyber Agency had not given scholarships to college students. The President ISF Jamrud Usman Ali said that “we discussed this issue with the Director Education and PA Jamrud but they disappointed us every time”. The vice president Fawad Afridy said “if our demands were not aired it will make us stage a protest in front of the Governor’s House in Peshawar. The students said their scholarships need to be given in order to facilitate studies. A student Tahir Afridy said “I come daily from Jamrud to Government College Peshawar for the reason that I require financial help”. Transportation: The Adviser to the Chief Minister for Transport and Mass Transit, Malik Shah Mohammad Khan Wazir, presided over a meeting at the Peshawar Secretariat with a delegation of trader unions in Peshawar. The delegation informed the Adviser about reservation over the fear of property loss through the implementation of the Rapid Bus Transit Scheme of the PTI-led provincial government. The delegation comprised the President of Peshawar Sadder Bazar Qaiser Javed Khushi, the representative of Hospital road Trade Union Humayun Fazal along with Hassin Shehzad. The official transport department briefed the delegation about the scheme to eliminate reservation. The member project management unit and expert of public transport, Aqeel Yunis Mughal, described the project in detail with the help of a design which was also projected at the meeting. The adviser to the CM said that the Pakistan Muslim League-N-led government in the centre rejected the giving of land of the railway department on lease for efficiently plotting the schemes. The provincial government then made approaches at the Asian Development Bank (ADB) to get loans. The provincial government got a loan on good terms by which the master plan would be establish within a year to solve the mainstream problems of traffic.
