MANSEHRA: The police on Thursday booked about 100 persons for blocking the Karakoram Highway (KKH) to protest the alleged police torture on a suspected robber. “Some outlaws had joined the protesters to destroy the peace of the district. We have booked our three officers and a driver to defuse the tension but those involved in challenging writ of the government would also be taken to justice,” Ahsan Saifullah, the district police officer, told a news conference at his office here. Inspector Jamal Zeb, the spokesman for the police, was also present on the occasion. The DPO said that though he was unwilling to lodge FIR against police officials, he lodged FIR to defuse the situation. “Mega development projects are being executed under China-Pakistan Economic Corridor. And I cannot allow anybody to block strategically important KKH,” said Saifullah. He said that police, through video clips, had identified troublemakers in protest and lodged FIR against them. The DPO also lauded the role of the family of suspect robber who was allegedly died of police torture, adding, they wanted an impartial inquiry into the incident.
