PESHAWAR: The people of Hamzoni tribe of North Waziristan Agency (NWA) who have returned to their homes after displacement have called upon the government on Saturday to revive the fruit orchards in the area. People demanded for compensation amount to meet the loss of property. The North Waziristan Agriculture Department head Muhammad Anwar Khan Wazir said the department’s own orchards and nurseries were also damaged in operation Zarb-e-Azb. He said the department has no funds for the next development programme. The local people said operation affected life in many ways in North Waziristan and also affected the fruit orchards which were a major source of income. They said their orchards were badly damaged when they returned to their native areas after life of displacement. The People called upon the government to provide them saplings and financial assistance to revive their orchards. “Our tribe was known for supplying fruit and vegetables to the whole Waziristan region, but that has ended”, they added.
