LANDIKOTAL: The Fata Development Authority (FDA) distributed cash and sewing machines among 40 women including members of Christian community after completion of a six-month course in a skills training centre. A ceremony was arranged in the Government Higher Secondary School for Girls. Fata Secretariat officials, Assistant Political Agent Niaz Muhammad, tehsildarIrshad Ali Mohmand and local elders attended the ceremony. Speaking on the occasion, the APA said it was a good initiative by the Fata Secretariat that established a centre for imparting skills to womenfolk in Landikotal. He said it would further promote peace and play a significant role in women’s empowerment in Landikotal. The official said it gave a message of religious harmony to the world that not only Muslim women but a good number of Christian girls also benefited from the centre. He also gave away Rs50,000 to the centre. Agency Coordinator for Fata Development Authority Tufail Khan said the centre was established two years ago. He said that so far 1,200 women from Landikotal have completed training in different skills. Niaz Muhammad and Tufail distributed Rs5,000 each, sewing machines and certificates to the 40 women. A social worker from minorities and head of the skills centre, Wilson Masih, thanked the Fata Secretariat and local administration officials for their moral and financial support.
