PESHAWAR: A division bench of the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) has fixed August 12 to hear a petition seeking the disqualification of three leaders of Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf (PTI) in offshore companies scam exposed by the Panama Leaks. Awami National Party (ANP) Senator Bushra Gohar has submitted application before the ECP for the disqualification of Senator Liaqat Ali, his brother Member Provincial Minister (MPA) Muhammad Ali Taraki and son Shahram Tarakai who holds the office of the Health Minister in the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) Government. Speaking to Daily Times Senator Bushra Gohar said, “I have submitted a petition against Senator Liaqat Tarakai for not disclosing his offshore assets and liabilities declaration to the ECP”. She said that hearing was halted before the ECP for the last three month as the quorum was not completed, adding that the ECP had notified her about the hearing to be held on August 12. “I asked the ECP in the application for the disqualification of the provincial minister Shahram Tarakai and MPA Muhammad Ali Tarakai for assisting Senator Liaqat Khan Tarakai in the nomination paper for Senate. Bushra Gohar said she had also asked the Chief of ECP to take suo moto action against all MPAs whose names had appeared in the Panama Leaks and those who attempted deliberately to conceal their annual assets and liabilities declaration. “The hearing was postponed three times because the ECP was not functional but now the first hearing has been set for August 12,” Senator Bushra Gohar said. She said that it would be the first hearing so she would present a petition and after the hearing a notification would be issued to Senator Liaqat Tarakai, KP Health Minister Shahram Tarakai and MPA Muhammad Ali. However, it should be mentioned here that a PTI MNA Rai Hasan Nawaz elected from the NA-162 constituency in Cheecha Watni was disqualified last year by an election tribunal in Multan who failed to disclosure his assets.
