KHYBER AGENCY: Six persons including five women were killed and two others sustained injuries when a pick-up vehicle plunged into a deep ravine here at Norlassam picket, Mulagori Road, the remote area of Kam-Shelman area of tehsil Landi Kotal on Wednesday. The political tehsildar, Irshad Mohmand administration and local sources told that the ill-fated tribesmen, loaded in pickup bearing numbers plate,LKL-118 while returning back to their homes in Kam-Shelman after sympathized a relative death in Mulagori area when the vehicle fell down into hundreds feet deep ditch while negotiating a dangerous curve. The five women were dead on the spot while driver of the vehicle succumbed to his injuries on way to Peshawar hospital. And two children were also got serious injured and were shifted to agency headquarter hospital Landi Kotal for medical aid where from the driver was referred to Peshawar health center due to precarious condition, hospital sources said. Soon after the incident, the local tribesmen launched relief efforts to retrieve the wounded and bodies from the spot, local sources said. Quick response force team, forces health officials and ambulance were dispatched to the site to initiate relief works, Commandant Khyber Rifles Col Umar Farooq said. The deceased were identified as driver Qisam Khan, w/o said Ameer Shah, w/o Azizullah, w/o Abdul Wasey, w/o Haleem Khan and w/o Hewa Gul, sources said. Meanwhile the custom officials foiled a bid of smuggling of mobile phones from Afghanistan to Pakistan her at Torkham border previous day. The custom superintendent, Naeem Khan while sharing details said on Wednesday that the custom officials stopped an Afghanistan returned truck bearing registration no.34685 for routine search. During checking 611 cell phones were recovered, concealed in numerous cavities of the vehicle, the official said. It is to be mentioned here that smugglers to save custom duty smuggle certain commodities into Pakistan via Torkham border.
