ISLAMABAD: A reference has been moved in the Supreme Judicial Council (SJC) against Islamabad High Court (IHC)’s judge Justice Shaukat Aziz Siddiqui for his alleged sudden arrival in a general body meeting of the District Bar Association. and addressing the event without any invitation. The reference was moved by the former District Bar Association Islamabad President Advocate Syed Javed Akber. The mover contended that Justice Shaukat Aziz Siddiqui had suddenly arrived at a general body meeting of the District Bar Association on November 10 without any invitation by the bar during his duty time and addressed the event. The intervention in the general body meeting by the IHC judge was a violation of rules and procedures, he further added. He stated that the being a judge, his speech was inappropriate and controversial in which he had criticised several bar members by uttering their names. The decision of the Supreme Court was also criticised in speech which comes under law of contempt of the court, he added. He prayed the SJC to initiate an inquiry against Justice Shaukat Aziz Siddigui for allegedly violating rules and procedure. The mover also prayed in reference that the inquiry report should be sent to the President of Pakistan so that the above judge may be removed from the post. It was worth mentioning here that a reference was already pending with the Supreme Judicial Council against Islamabad High Court (IHC) judge Justice Shaukat Aziz Siddiqui on charges of corruption and abuse of authority. The reference was filed by Ali Anwar Gopang, a former officer of the Capital Development Authority (CDA). It needs to be mentioned here that the Pakistan Bar Council, the Supreme Court Bar Association and other lawyers’ organizations have been demanding that all references pending against different judges on priority basis conclude.
