ISLAMABAD: The Interior Ministry has transferred the functions of defunct National Crisis Management Cell (NCMC) to National Counter Terrorism Authority (NACTA) and other offices. According to a notification issued by the ministry here on Monday, NACTA will act as nerve centre for the Ministry of Interior and provide round the clock information on matters of internal security, terrorist activities and all events of national importance and day to day law and order situation through control room and media desk. It will also report on bomb blasts and suicide attacks. The purview of NACTA would also include spillover of cellular communications network and SOP for verification of SIMS, anti-state contents on internet (PTA), counter terrorism related cases, activities of proscribed organizations, references of Guantanamo Bay detainees and Parwan detention facility in Afghanistan. NACTA will also be responsible for counter terrorism cooperation with foreign countries, Pakistan-India dialogue including Mumbai terror attack, counter terrorism confidence building measures, SAARC cases, sectarian hatred material or literature, and collection and maintenance of data on terrorism and extremism. Meanwhile, National Police Bureau (NPB) will collect and maintain data on sectarianism and other crimes. Besides, it will also be tasked with implementing the Anti-Terrorism Assistance Program. The security wing of the Ministry of Interior will issue security instructions upon receiving threat alerts and information reports from various intelligence agencies. The security wing will also ensure security of Pakistan-China Economic Corridor (CPEC) and foreigners visiting Pakistan and working on various projects in the country in coordination with the Special Security Division. The wing will also ensure security of polio related campaigns, a much needed relief for polio workers who have been targeted by extremists over the years. The Law Wing of the Ministry will look after different databases related to terrorism and involuntary disappearances.
