ISLAMABAD: The opening ceremony of the 7th National Youth Peace Festival was held here on September 28. The event was organised by the Chanan Development Association in collaboration with the Youth Parliament forum and the UNFPA at the National Library. The Minister of State, Engineer Muhammad Balighur Rehman, was the chief guest at the event and the ceremony was attended by Iknat Dhakal (Member Parliament Nepal), Roomina Khursheed (Member Youth Parliament) and Dr. Hassan Mohtashami (Country Director UNFPA) along with other political and civil society members as well as students. Speaking on the occassion Muhammad Balighur Rehman said: “We are facing different challanges like extremism and unfortunately the youth has been the main target”. He appreciated the organisers for providing such a platform to the youth where they could not only discuss about peace but also devise a mutually agreed upon strategy to counter it. Talking about the role of the government in the establishment of peace in the country, the minister of said that they had devised a National Action Plan more than two years ago and it had been implemented successfully.
