ISLAMABAD: Youm-e-Takbeer was observed across the country to commemorate the historic nuclear tests Pakistan conducted on this day in 1998. Pakistan became the seventh nuclear world power with demonstration of nuclear capabilities and the first in the Muslim world. Special prayers were offered for the progress and prosperity of the country, supremacy of the constitution, prosperity of the nation and eradication of terrorism. Various organisations had arranged special programmes and functions to highlight importance of the day. Prime Minister Muhammad Nawaz Sharif, in his message on Youm-e-Takbeer, said that the nation was showing unity to make Pakistan as an Asian Tiger in economic terms as it had shown unity in 1998 when the country carried out nuclear tests making the national defense as impregnable. He added that May 28 was an unforgettable day in the history of Pakistan when country’s appeared as an atomic power on the global map. The Yaum-e-Takbeer was celebrated in Lahore also with zeal and zest to mark the nuclear tests day of Pakistan. Special prayers were offered in mosques and other holy places for progress and prosperity of the country, supremacy of constitution and eradication of terrorism. A special session was also organised by Nazria-e-Pakistan Trust (NPT) at Aiwan-e-Karkunan-e-Pakistan, here in this regard. In his address, NPT chairman and former president Muhammad Rafique Tarar said that Youm-e-Takbeer was one of the most important days of country’s history, as it made Pakistan unbeatable in terms of defence and the foiled designs of its enemies forever. He said that Youm-e-Takbeer was a day of pride for not only Pakistanis but also for the entire Muslim Ummah. He said the most important message of the day was that the nation will not allow anyone to get in the way of progress of Pakistan. The NPT chairman congratulated the nation and termed Youm-e-Takbeer a day of jubilation. He paid tributes to Prime Minister Muhammad Nawaz Sharif over his daring approach despite pressure from the world powers. Being a witness to the situation, the NPT chairman said he did not find Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif hesitant in taking a decision about the nuclear tests on May 28, 1998. Lt-Gen (r) Zulfiqar Ali Khan, Justice (r) Khalilur Rehman Khan, intellectuals, teachers, journalists, students and workers of Muslim League attended the session. Youm-e-Takbeer was observed in Azad Jammu & Kashmir (AJK) on Sunday with a pledge to defend country against any aggression. To mark the day, special prayers offered for peace, progress and prosperity of the country. The historic day of May 28 is marked with commemoration of this day of May 28, 1998 when Pakistan, during then regime of PML-N led by Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif detonation of six nuclear devices in response to five of India. Speakers in special meetings to celebrate the historic day in various parts of AJK renewed the pledge to lend all of the energies to make Pakistan strong and prosperous besides to safeguard inch-after-inch of the motherland by going through shoulder-to-shoulder the valiant defense forces of the country. Strong and prosperous Pakistan in all manners including at defense and economic sectors is the guarantee to the freedom of Kashmir. “People of Jammu & Kashmir will leave no stone unturned to make Pakistan strong, stable and prosperous besides to safeguard the security and defense of the country,” speakers including AJK minister for Sports Culture and Youth Chaudhry Muhammad Saeed vowed at a meeting held on Sunday.
