ISLAMABAD: The All Pakistan Muslim League (APML) and the Pakistan Awami Tehreek (PAT) are preparing to file references in the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) for disqualification of Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif. APML Secretary General Ahmad Raza Kasuri said in an interview, “The APML has finalised its preparations for a disqualification reference against the prime minister. Undeniable proof will be attached to the disqualification reference against the prime minister and his colleagues.” He said the PAT had also decided to file a reference against the prime minister. He said that PAT chief Dr Tahirul Qadri had hired the services of legal experts for this purpose. Kasuri said that former Supreme Court Chief Justice Iftikhar Mohammad Chaudhry had also announced that he would file a reference against the prime minister. It is worth mentioning here that the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) and the Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) have already filed references in the ECP for prime minister’s disqualification. Besides the prime minister, the PPP has sought disqualification of Punjab Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif, Finance Minister Ishaq Dar and lawmakers Capt (Retd) Muhammad Safdar and Hamza Shahbaz. The PPP and the PTI have accused the prime minister, his close aides and his family members of hiding their assets while filing their nomination papers for the last general election. They asked the ECP to disqualify the ruling party leaders under Articles 62 and 63 of the Constitution.
