ISLAMABAD: Chief Justice of Pakistan Anwar Zaheer Jamali on Tuesday said corruption is a common issue which is hampering the economic growth of countries. He said further corruption and money laundering are the important issues being faced by third world countries, having limited resources for development. He said this during a meeting with heads of SAARC Anti-Corruption Agencies held in the Supreme Court. The delegation comprised of Pakistan’s National Accountability Bureau Chairman Qamar Zaman Chaudhry, Bhutan’s Deputy High Office of Anti-Corruption Kinley Yangzom, India’s Central Vigilance Commission Director Shri Premanshu Biswas, Maldives’s Anti-Corruption Commission President Hassan Luthfee, Nepal’s Commission of Investigation of Abuse of Authority (CIAA) Commissioner Ganesh Raj Joshi and Sri Lanka’s Commission to Investigate Allegations of Bribery or Corruption Chairman Justice TB Weerasuriya. The CJP said he is confident that the seminar would enhance the cooperation in SAARC countries and reach out conclusion to evolve strategies and methodologies to curb and control the menace of corruption at regional level. The delegates were also briefed about anti-corruption laws in Pakistan. The delegates also shared their experiences and briefed Jamali about the strategies being implemented in their countries to fight corruption. Earlier, the NAB chairman thanked the chief justice and briefed him about the SAARC Nations Seminar on Anti-Corruption being organized by NAB on September 26-27 to enhance regional cooperation to deal with corruption. He presented a souvenir to the CJP as a token of respect and goodwill gesture. The chief justice thanked the delegates.
