ISLAMABAD: Capital Development Authority (CDA) Chairman, Sheikh Ansar Aziz announced on Thursday to form two joint committees to resolve the issues of local traders. He nominated Zeeshan Ali Naqvi, Deputy Mayor and Sardar Mehtab Ahmed Khan, from the CDA and Ch. Riffat Javed, Deputy Mayor and Raja Waheed from the IMC, for the joint committees and asked the ICCI to nominate its representatives for both the committees. He said this while addressing a large delegation of market representatives that called on him led by Khalid Iqbal Malik, President, Islamabad Chamber of Commerce and Industry (ICCI), to apprise him of the key issues of traders. Sheikh Ansar Aziz said that the business community was playing an important role in the development of the city and the CDA and the IMC wanted to facilitate both of them in the growth of business activities. He said joint committees would look into the issues of traders and submit recommendations for their resolution. He said placing sanitation staff in markets at the disposal of market unions was under consideration so that unions could monitor their performance. He said if any market union wanted to undertake some development work in market on self-finance basis including construction of public baths, installation of filtration plant etc the CDA was ready to allow the same. He hoped that joint committees would be effective in resolving the long standing issues of the business community. In his welcome address, the President ICCI said that Sheikh Ansar Aziz was an elected leader and the business community had pinned lot of hopes on him. He said almost 95 per cent issues of the business community were related to the CDA and the markets were facing many common issues which needed the urgent attention of the CDA. He assured that the ICCI and market unions would fully cooperate with the CDA and the IMC in resolving issues of the business community. The market representatives while highlighting various issues, said that the CDA had not undertaken development works in markets since long due to which roads and footpaths were broken, street lights, car parking, filtration plants and public toilets were not available, sanitation staff was not performing its duty well, sewerage lines were mixing with water supply lines at some places adding that the green areas required better development.
