ISLAMABAD: Three Monks, a Chinese play by China National Theatre for Children (CNTC) enthralled the audience of twin cities on Wednesday at Pakistan National Council of the Arts (PNCA). The Chinese cultural troupe entertained the audience with stunning performances of Chinese theatre to celebrate the Chinese New Year. The event was organised by the Embassy of the Peoples Republic of China in collaboration with Ministry of Information, Broadcasting and National Heritage and PNCA. National Assembly Deputy Speaker Murtaza Javed Abbasi also attended the event and lauded the efforts of Chinese cultural troupe for introducing their cultural heritage and performing art skills to fun lovers in Pakistan. He said that such events create opportunities for extending cooperation between people to people contacts. Three Monks is a story adapted from Chinese ancient legend. A number of diplomats, government officials, civil society members, politicians, foreigners, students, media persons and PNCA officials attended the event. The Chinese New Year and spring festival as its been celebrated since the 20th century, remains the most important social and economic holiday in China. The Chinese New Year period began in the middle of the 12th month and ended around the middle of the first month with the full moon. Observance of the New Year period is traditionally divided into New Year’s Eve and the first days of the New Year. Traditionally for the Chinese, New Year is the most important festival on the calendar. The entire attention of the nation is fixed on the celebration. The show created a fascinating ambiance for the audience of different ages who got a rare opportunity to get the taste of Chinese remarkable performing art.
