ISLAMABAD: The National Assembly’s standing committee of Cabinet Secretariat on Wednesday urged Capital Administration and Development Division (CADD) to bring a policy about the regularisation of teaching and non-teaching staff that are working in different educational institutions of the federal capital. The standing committee on Cabinet Secretariat met at Parliament House that was chaired by Rana Muhammad Hayat Khan. Various issue related to CADD were discussed in the meeting. Besides, CADD State Minister Dr Tariq Fazal Chaudhary, MNAs including Parveen Masood Bhatti, Nighat Parveen Mir, Farhana Qamar, Marriyum Aurangzeb, Nafeesa Inayatullah Khan Khattak, Muhammad Rehan Hashmi and Moulvi Agha Muhammad attended the meeting. The NA body said that students are facing serious problems and their parents are upset due to prolonged strike of the daily wages teachers. The committee chairman requested the teachers to call off their strike and give time frame of a month to CADD to bring a policy about the regularisation of their jobs. Hayat Khan said, “Hopefully this issue would be resolved without the interference of any other department.” A delegation of teachers have informed the committee that more than 2,000 daily wages and contractual employees were regularised in the federal capital during the government of PML-N but teachers are still facing problems. 600 teachers and 1500 non-teaching staff are demanding job security, he added. State Minister Dr Tariq Fazal Chaudhry informed the committee that around 9,000 teachers are performing their duties in all the schools and colleges of federal capital. The NA body showed serious concerns over the poor performance of Private Educational Institutions Regulatory Authority (PEIRA) that completely failed to implement rules. The committee said that without any hesitation, PEIRA should implement their rules and present report to the committee within a period of month. Members of the committee highlighted the poor facilities at private schools that are working without playgrounds, proper laboratories, libraries and other relevant things. The NA body also stressed that the classes of physical education must be ensured in all educational institutions adding that most of the private educational institutes have no proper playgrounds. The director general of Federal Directorate of Education informed the committee that 88 posts of physical training instructors (PTI) are lying vacant and a letter has been sent to Federal Public Service Commission (FPSC) for recruitment of instructors in this regard.
