ISLAMABAD: PTI chairman Imran Khan on Wednesday accused Punjab Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif of getting kickbacks on development projects through his frontman. “Javed Sadiq, a Canadian citizen, is seen in numerous meetings with Shahbaz Sharif… he [Shahbaz] receives kickbacks through him,” Imran told reporters. Kaptaan claimed that Sadiq had so far received Rs15 billion commission and consultancy charges in several projects, and is due to get another Rs 26 billion. Imran said people were highlighting Sharif brothers’ ‘corruption’ as his party’s planned lockdown of the capital was approaching, adding, “he will expose more such incidences in the coming days”. Earlier, addressing members of the Islamabad High Court Bar, the PTI chief said Pakistan is a great nation but being “ruled by the corrupt”. Only an independent judiciary could save the country from rulers’ corruption, he added. Imran said that only an independent judiciary could save the country from the corruption being done by the rulers. “The PTI is ready to stage a mass protest in Islamabad on November 2 against the corrupt rulers. The premier should either return the ‘looted’ money or step down from his position,” Kaptaan said. The PTI chairman said that Pakistan is a great nation which is being ruled by corrupt thugs. “This is a great nation but corrupt mafia are sitting at the helm of affairs to loot and plunder, safeguarding one another. Nowhere in the world a prime minister named in a corruption scandal continues to rule the country,” the cricter-turned-politician said. “This is resulting in the destruction of national institutions, ethical practices and even the country’s ideology,” he added. Kaptaan repeated his oft-quoted stance that the 2013 general elections were not free, fair and transparent, adding that a large number of the crucial Form 15s were missing from the election results. “It is our democratic right to hold peaceful protest, which we will to exercise to purge this country of corruption,” the PTI chairman said. The PTI chairman has asked the government several times to probe the Panama leaks, but the government institutions such as the Federal Bureau of Revenue, State Bank, Security Exchange Commission of Pakistan and National Accountability Bureau showed their apathy in this regard. Earlier on October 20, the Supreme Court issued a notice to Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif and others over petitions seeking his disqualification on the account of Panama Papers leaks.
