ISLAMABAD: State Minister for Communication Abdul Hakeem Baloch on Thursday resigned from his office over differences with the chairman of the National Highway Authority (NHA) and a powerful lobby at Prime Minister’s House. Daily Times published a news a few days ago that Baloch was all set to resign and he announced it formally on Thursday. A senior minister asked Baloch not to resign and told him that he was working to address his concerns, but later his efforts did not bear the fruit, source said. According to a copy of the resignation sent to Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif, Baloch said, “I would like to refer to my meeting with you at Prime Minister’s House on April 29 in which I explained my grievances and the problems being faced by the people of my constituency in the Malir District in Karachi. It is regretted that our grievances have not been addressed.” The resignation further says, “To save myself from further embarrassment and humiliation, I want to quit. It is very difficult for me to continue in this situation. Now it is once again requested that kindly accept my resignation as state minister for communication.” In the end, Baloch said, “I surrender all facilities provided to me as the minister of state.” Sources said that Baloch relinquished the charge of his office, returned the official car, driver and other staff and left for Karachi. It may be mentioned here that Baloch is ruling party’s only member of the National Assembly from Karachi.
