ISLAMABAD: The Inspector General of Police Islamabad Capital Territory has only victimised junior officials by taking back the “shoulder promotions ” on the orders of the Supreme Court. However, no senior officer was demoted. On Thursday, IGP Tariq Yasin issued the orders of the demotion of 300 sub inspectors(SIs) and assistant sub inspectors to the ranks of constables and head constables. They were enjoying only ‘shoulder promotions’. The downgrading of the DSP level officers was postponed. The Supreme Court had ordered all the police chiefs to withdraw the shoulder promotions of the entire officials. On the orders of the court the Punjab and Sindh Police have reverted shoulder promotion holders back to their original grades but the same was delayed by the Islamabad Police. The spokesman of Islamabad Police, Inspector Tahir told the Daily Times that all the officials who were demoted were given promotion in reward of their outstanding performance . He said that a report to this effect would be submitted in the Supreme Court very soon. When he was asked about the reduction in rank of the officers of the DSP level , he said that it was not the prerogative of the IG to send them back to a lower grade. Rather it is the job of the interior ministry to promote or demote the officers working in BPS-17 and above.
