ISLAMABAD: Interior Minister Chaudhry Nisar Ali Khan has extended the amnesty scheme for re-verification of Computerised National Identity Cards (CNICs) by a month. This decision was made only for foreigners who voluntarily surrender their Pakistani CNICs. However, the extension will not be applicable to NADRA employees. Chairing a high-level security meeting on Friday, Chaudhry Nisar moved ahead with the strategic counterterrorism measures and issued directives to the National Counter Terrorism Authority (NACTA) for immediate geo-mapping of Karachi and Quetta to counter terrorism. Expressing satisfaction over the voluntarily return of 334 CNICs, the interior minister extended the amnesty scheme deadline by another month only for foreigners. The directives for geo-mapping come at a time when the federation is focusing on both Karachi and Quetta to ensure peace in the provincial capitals. Meanwhile, more than 56 million CNICs have been verified by NADRA during the ongoing CNIC re-verification drive within a span of two months, achieving 60 percent target. The NADRA chairman informed Chaudhry Nisar that 80 officials of the authority had also been identified who had wilfully included aliens in Pakistani family trees. The interior minister appreciated the amount of public cooperation and the media’s resounding built-up for the ongoing re-verification drive. The minister pointed out that financial benefit should also be given to the foreigners who had voluntarily returned their Pakistani CNICs.
