ISLAMABAD: The Pakistan Medical and Dental Council (PMDC) on Monday refuted claims made in a fake notification circulating the media about an alleged ban on the house jobs and internships for foreign-qualified students. PMDC President Dr Shabir Lehri took serious notice of the fake notification and clarified that the notification was fake and had been circulated in the media to fulfill vested interest of someone. “It has not link with PMDC. Foreign students and their parents are greatly worried over it. This case has been sent to FIA Cyber Crime Cell to investigate the persons who are behind this fake document,” he said. Dr Lehri said that the PMDC MBBS BDS (admission, house job and internship) Regulations 2016 had not been implemented yet as it was still under litigation in various courts. “Under the law, the internship/observer ship/clerkship of foreign students has been discouraged in Pakistan to stop these students from wasting their time. However, any graduates who have done their MBBS and BDS from abroad and have successfully passed the PMDC National Examination Board (NEB) step III exam are allowed to do their house job in any public or private PMDC approved hospitals,” he said. He said that the PMDC was trying its best to convince foreign countries offering admission to Pakistani students to offer them house jobs. He said that parents and students were advised to seek information directly from the PMDC office or PMDC website to prevent any miscommunication. Published in Daily Times, September 26th 2017.
