ISLAMABAD: Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Chairman Imran Khan on Monday submitted in the Supreme Court of Pakistan supplementary documents, including a concise statement pertaining to the money trail. A three-member SC bench, headed by Chief Justice Mian Saqib Nisar, will resume hearing today (Tuesday) a petition filed by Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz’s Hanif Abbasi against Imran Khan. Abbasi is seeking the disqualification of Khan and PTI Secretary General Jahangir Khan Tareen for non-disclosure of assets, ownership of offshore companies as well as the PTI being a foreign-aided party. In his statement submitted through his lawyer Naeem Bukhari, Imran Khan stated that the issue of payment to Jemima Goldsmith for Bani Gala residence was a matter between a husband and a wife, and thus was not declarable to the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) or any other authority whatsoever. In his supplementary concise statement, he states that he never changed his position relating to his position on Bani Gala residence. He stated that the issue had been settled between him and his former wife Jemima between June 30, 2003 and July 1, 2002, leaving nothing to be declared to any authority, including the ECP. He said any payments made by Rashid Khan, one of his closed friends since 1994, relating to the remittances by Jemima were also settled. He said the London apartment was sold on April 14, 2003, adding that there were no foreign assets to be declared before the ECP or Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) as there were no assets in London on the cut-off date ie June 30, 2003, of the respective statement. He submitted that the London flat was purchased through foreign earnings which did not require disclosure in Pakistan nor were remitted in Pakistan to make it mandatory for such disclosure. However, tax at source was deducted by the two countries from rent receivable as and when the flat was put on rent. It was submitted that the sale price of the London flat was created into NSL Barclays Call Account GB Pounds N 001. “It is from this account that GB Pounds 562.415.54 were instructed to be remitted to the account of Jemima Khan,” he stated, adding that an email dated 16-5-2017 was sent at 11.07am by Taher Nawaz to Jamey Dywer, copied to Ashley Cox. “In response and only after due confirmation, which is a condition/precedent before confirmation, the reply dated 22-5-2017 was sent. This confirmation was just not possible without the due verification process,” the statement says. On September 12, the court had questioned the authenticity of the documents pertaining to the transactions that took place between Imran Khan and his spouse Jemima, stating that the documents submitted so far were photocopies. “Similarly, the money that Khan had claimed to have borrowed from his wife has not yet been verified,” the court had observed.
