To meet the challenges of the globalised world today, it was essential to inform citizens all over the world properly about the work of the United Nations so that they actively contributed to it, he added. The UN had made enormous progress in international law, peace and development after the end of the Cold War, Foreign Secretary Aizaz Ahmad Chaudhry said, adding that, “The Urdu translation of this handbook will increase awareness about the UN’s work.” UN Resident Coordinator, Neil Buhne said: “With 60 per cent of the population of the country below 30 years of age, Pakistan played a leading role in the UN in many ways. It could only continue to do so if more Pakistanis were aware of the UN and its mandate.” Dr Syed Wiqar Ali Shah, Dean Faculty of Social Sciences, Quaid-e- Azam University said: “The Urdu version of the book is another milestone towards achieving the objective of reaching out to the maximum number of people in Pakistan. This will help in a better understanding of Pakistan-UN relations.” UN Corner unveiled at the QAU library: A United Nations Corner was unveiled here at the Library of the Quaid-e-Azam University on Monday.
